Labor & Employment Alert: Federal Government Revises I-9 Form

In August, the federal government announced a revised version of the official I-9 Form. While the substantive information is essentially the same and shouldn’t create any implementation problems, the details are somewhat rearranged, and the formatting appears “skinnier.”

In any event, the formal date for implementation is Wednesday, November 1. You should eliminate copies of the old form and start using the new one immediately. It is available here: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-9.pdf.

By the way, the new format does not call for you to do anything with your existing forms – you do not have to go back and change old forms or add new forms to your old personnel files. Just use the new form as new employees are brought on board from now on.
